Jessie Matthews has been teaching online courses in composition and literature since 2008 and now teaches almost exclusively online. In 2011, she completed the Sloan-C Certificate Course in distance education, and, in 2012, she was the recipient of the first Distance Education Faculty Outstanding Achievement Award.
Jessie earned a PhD in American literature from the George Washington University in 2005. From 1999-2001, she worked as a program assistant to the EDSITEment project, the education website of the National Endowment for the Humanities, where she developed her interest in digital media and classroom pedagogies. Her current research interests include rhetoric/composition and distance learning pedagogies.
Since January of 2019, Jessie has served as the Faculty Fellow for Online Course Re-Design Academy for the Stearns Center. In the spring of 2020, she co-facilitated the first round of the Online Course Development Primer for faculty in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Prior to that, she completed Stearns Center's Online Course Development Institute in preparation for developing the first online sections of English 101 and English 201.
